Teens find “frozen” creature stuck under the car, drop everything to help it
As two teenage boys walked through their area, they saw a group of people gathered around a car.
As they got closer, they tried to figure out what the crowd was looking at, but it was the strangest thing they had ever seen.
Something was frozen and couldn’t move.
The boys knew they had to move quickly to save the animal, but they didn’t know how.
The strange find was made by friends Jaydon Pettipas and Aidan Hart in the Canadian town of Saint Andrews in New Brunswick, according to the Canadian news outlet CBC.
Before the day was over, the two teenage boys would be praised as heroes for what they did.
When they saw a group of people grouped together, they had to find out what made people stop and look.
But they didn’t know what they were seeing, even though they were close. The animal looked like it was frozen solid and wasn’t even close to looking living.
An animal called a squirrel was trapped under a car and covered in protective foam. They knew it was going to die soon.
15-year-old Jaydon said, “There was nothing recognizable about it.”
The boys went into a food store and got a small milk container to put the squirrel in because they knew it needed help but didn’t know how to get it.
The situation became more critical over time, and no one nearby the boys knew what to do either.
The guys asked family and friends for help by calling them. Then Jaydon’s mom stepped in and called someone 20 miles away. The person told her to bring the animal in right away.
Dr. Melanie Eagan from St. George Veterinary Clinic said, “I’ve never seen anything like this before.”
She said the squirrel was stuck in the insulating foam so much that it couldn’t move its back legs. The squirrel would not have lived if the boys hadn’t acted so quickly and if their mother hadn’t helped them bring the squirrel inside.
The vet thought the animal might have been living in someone’s garage, basement, or shed and gotten caught in something.
“It looks like someone was trying to seal a hole to keep a draft out when this little guy ran through it while it was still wet,” she said. “That stuff hardens pretty fast, though, so he wouldn’t have been in trouble for long.”
She said it took time, persistence, and rubbing alcohol to get the foam off the animal’s fur. After that, she combed it out, which made the animal lose some fur. The squirrel has been back to the wild since then.
Thankfully, these two thoughtful teens moved quickly and were able to save the poor animal. Please share to honor their work!
