Did anyone here marry their sweethearts immediately after high school?
Nostalgia
Am really a bit curious, I did not as I was still working on getting out of my awkward stages when I graduated, but my wife did. Got divorced by the time she finished undergrad and was then with another guy until she finished grad school then was single for years until I met her. In her words she really did it to be able to get out of the house and start having sex.
The thing that stuck with me tho was she acts like I’m the odd one for NOT getting married young, like it was something everyone did. Yet from my HS graduating class I dont know of anyone that got married after HS/between or even in college. My college buddy was with his HS gf for over 10 years before he married her, and have other friends from HS that married people from our HS at a much later date, like 10-15 years after HS.
The getting married/romantically entangled young situation I always thought was something that happened in more previous generations, perhaps ones with more limited options. For millenials, I always associated taking on a ton of irresponsible debt without truly knowing what you’re getting into at an early age with signing up up for a ton of student loans for college “because they will pay for themselves (somehow)”. Any thoughts?
Edit: Realized immediately after I posted could be a geographic proclivity as well. I grew up in Southern California and my wife grew up in the suburbs of East Texas, near a big city.
